A very robust fish that is very hardy, adaptable and when in breeding condition, unbelievably red with blue spangles. When not spawning, the redness can vary from brick red to vivid red, depending on the fishs mood and condition. Best kept with other species of similar size or larger. Males grow to about 12cm, females remain smaller.
