The Butterflyfish is a bizzare looking oddball that lies in wait just below the water surface for food items such as fallen insects. Very difficult to breed, most aquarium stock is wild caught from West Africa. It makes a good aquarium fish, readily eating most floating foods and is not particularly fussy about water conditions. Both sexes are very similar except the male has a slightly convex anal fin. They grow to about 10cm. Like most surface dwellers, they are good jumpers.
